You'uns Come

(that's how we say it in the Ozarks)

About us...

Michael Gold (1758-1814), came to the American Colonies from Sheffield, England as a British soldier in 1776. The story, as passed down through the generations, is that he and his two brothers defected, joined the Continental Army and fought for our freedom. We're working on documentation.

On March 20, 1852, Michael's son Johnathan (1788-1866), grandsons Thomas (1819-1884) and William C. (1827-1910) and several related families loaded-up a wagon train. They left Lincoln and Marshall Counties in Tennessee for southwest Missouri.

Other family members followed. Our forebears homesteaded Missouri land, fought for the Union in the Civil War, and begat a bunch of young'uns who kept begittin' and begattin' until now there's enough of us to populate a town somewhere.

The descendants of Michael Gold have included US military generals, business and political leaders, and luminaries such as actor Don Johnson and Olympic medalist Gracie Gold.

Nearly every year since 1910, we've gotten together for an annual reunion.  The first recorded reunion was at the home of William C. Gold in Billings, MO.

In the late 1950s, three of our cousins, Finis Gold (1918-1987), Ray Gold (1919-2008), and Denzil Garrison (1926-2018) started researching our genealogy.

By patiently knocking on doors in Lincoln County, Tennessee (no internet, remember?), Ray reunited with the Tennessee branch of the family after over 100 years of separation.

We always have folks come to the annual reunion from Tennessee. Some of them live near where Michael Gold first homesteaded in 1810.

The reunion is an informal time. Everyone brings a covered dish.  There's great music and a lot of laughter.  Some of our talented crafters always bring items for auction to support the event, our newsletter, The Gold Nugget, and this website.

Over the last three decades, we've seen family members from all 50 states and as far away as New Zealand. We maintain contact through The Gold Nugget...click HERE to get on our mailing list.
